New Year~ Bring it on!

Caution: Party Poopers, Eeors, Mopers, Negative Nillies, Complainers: Do not Read....

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
So the winter holidays are coming to an end. When our buttons are popping, and our heads are aching, nothing seems more appealing then the old New Year Resolution. I can hear it now...I'll never drink again, this beer belly has got to go, I'm gonna fit into those jeans from High School.

You have heard it a million times. However, recently I have noticed a trend. People rightiously declaring they don't participate in the New Years Resolution. The logic behind it is respectable. Resolutions don't work, and furthermore, why wait till the New Year to make that choice.

People are frustrated and have given up on the resolutions. It's clear that resolutions are much like goal setting, and they are equally disputed and equally challanging for most people. Let's leave that for other people for a minute and get down to business.

5 Interpersonal Behaviors to Change Immediately!

Here are the first 5 of 20 behavioural changes as identified by Marshall Goldsmith, who has a PHD in organizational behaviour, and 29 years experience analyzing behaviour in organizations.

Studies show...employees don't leave companies, they leave managers...

1.) Winning too much: The need to win at costs and in all situations- when it matters, when it doesn't, and when it's totally beside the point.

2.) Adding too much value: The overwhelming desire to add our two cents to every discussion.

3.) Passing judgement: The need to rate others and impose our standards on them.

4.) Making destructive comments: The needless sarcasms and cutting remarks that we think make us sound sharp and witty.

5.) Starting with "No," "But," or "However": The overuse of these negative qualifiers which secretly say to everyone, "I'm right. You're wrong."

Remember in order to create real change it must be sustainable, the best way to create sustainable change is by creating good habits to support these behaviours. In these cases, these are habits based around (stopping) rather then starting or learning a new behaviour. In my experience leadership coaching is the most effective way to support and create sustainable change.

Comments? Ideas? Examples of these behavoiurs?
