Time, Money, Happiness

I call these the three magic wishes. If you have time you have freedom, if you have money you have choices, if you have happiness you have it all. Being submerged in the world of self-improvement, I often wonder what the magic answer really is. Of course, there are people selling magic potions all of the world, and believe me, plenty of money is being made from these potions. Eventhough, the self-help gluttony has reached monstrous proportions, we are still starving! Its like we are sitting in front of a buffett, filling our plates, sucking back the food and proceeding on for more.

I wanted to bring an idea to the table, not new, I am sure it is just another plankton in the sea of self help. Nevertheless, I propose that one reason we are still starving is because we are filling the equivalent of a black hole. Our core values, standards, morals and day to day operations are in a vaccuum. If we don't take the time to first examine what is important to us on a deeper level and why, we are filling this never ending abyss for all the wrong reasons. Not to mention there is no real solid leverage behind the actions.

Haven't you met people from all walks of life who are not happy and you cannot for the life of you figure out why? The surgeon who wishes he had his brother's life, the actress who is depressed and lonely, the rich man who cannot find a wife, the successful CEO, who is stressed.

All of these examples are people who could fairly unanamously be considered successful by all accounts. They have opportunity to make time for themselves, they have money, they should have happiness right?

Before you buy another potion, review the following steps:

STEP ONE: LIST YOUR VALUES! Find out what you value, what is important to you, things like; Integrity, Charity, Health, Family.

STEP TWO: LIST YOUR STANDARDS: What is your current code of conduct, things you are commited to on a regular basis that make you who you are.

STEP THREE: IDENTIFY an area in your life that you have pain, stress, concern, a problem etc.

STEP FOUR: COMPARE YOUR area of pain with your values. Almost always you will see that something that is causing you pain is because it is not in line with you values~

STEP FIVE: ADD A STANDARD: Now it is time to be accountable and in control of your life, take an action. If you are not happy, if you are in pain, MAKE A CHANGE. Decide what your standard is going to be, how you will make it a standard, and put it it into action. Remember, practice makes habit so "Do or do not, there is no try~"- YODA.

At any given time you are feeling a lack of fullfillment in your life, you are not in line with your values and standards.

Now I am off to listen to Anthony Robbins for my daily potion!:>)

Forget goals, set standards!

Goal - the state of affairs that a plan is intended to achieve and that (when achieved) terminates behaviour intended to achieve it; "the ends justify the means."

Goals, we all have them and we all strive towards them. They give us purpose, meaning, and direction. Providing a guideline for our lives with milestones and celebrations. There is no disputing the fact that goals are an important part of human behaviour.

But what happens after we reach the goal?

what happens after we reach the finish line?

Goals by definition, must come to an end.

Take for example, one of the most common goals and struggles facing North America, weight loss. There are countless organizations making millions of dollars helping individuals reach their weight loss goals. However, America still suffers with an increase in morbid obesity and weight loss challenges.

What happens after (The Biggest Loser?).

Once the goal is achieved it must come to an end it has no choice, it is a goal.

Standards on the other hand, are the gift of habit. Practice makes habits, and good habits based on your standards live on and linger.

If my standard is to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle each and every day. My mind set is long term. It is not focused on a beginning and an end, but rather a way of life. Reaching a goal may give us the chemically released reward and high, but without the standard to begin with, it will surely be short lived.

I am not in any way saying that goals are not important, that they are not beneficial. Nor am I suggesting that standards are the answer to weight loss challenges.

Standards are based on our values, and when we create a deeply meaningful commitment, coupled by recognizing and practicing habits that are in line with our standards and values, we have a fighting chance to create long lasting sustainable change.

Think of one goal in your life you are struggling to achieve.
Now imagine that you set a standard around this goal.
Next, imagine that you ask yourself each day, are my actions in line with my standard? what can I do to ensure this?

When you add standards it is important to do the following:

 WRITE THEM DOWN

 BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC

 ADD SLOWLY_ Don’t create this mass of standards you cannot live up to you will only disappoint.

 CREATE DAILY ACTIONS-Revolving around your standards. Practice makes habit. Make sure your actions are constantly revolving around your standards. I am a vegetarian, yes this means every day I don’t eat meat, not even if you cook me Lamb~!

 COMMIT: Tell yourself it is bad luck to not meet this standard, or whatever works for you. In a way it is true, if you don’t commit to your standards your conscience will haunt you, you will ultimately fail to achieve what you want most in life. I call that pretty bad luck~!

 CELEBRATE THEM: Feel good about your standards. Look around your life and acknowledge the standards you are already meeting. Recognize how they serve you and have made your life what you want and how you want it.

PRACTICE MAKES HABIT!

"We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act but rather a habit." -Aristotle-

Coaching the Coach!

Coaches coaching each other is a remarkable experience. There is nothing like the space that is held in these arenas. Individual techniques and tones working together in a symphony to create some of the most positive energy in the universe. The Supervised Coaching module at the International Coach Academy is the perfect example of how proative, effective, positive energy and feedback can be. In my experience the Supervised Coaching space creates the ideal variables for new coaches to gain confidence, celebrate personal succcess, and work towards accepting their strengths and skills as a coach to be real true value. An interesting parallel for all leaders, when you are feeling valuable, you are feeling powerful. When you are feeling empowered you are more likely to be positive and effective. It is essential that leaders become coaches all over the world in one way or another. I'd like to thank ICA for providing such a platform for new coaches to blossom and take flight.

Increasing Emotional Intelligence..Is it for you?

Research shows that for jobs of all kinds, emotional intelligence is twice as important as IQ,plus technical skills. Emotional intelligence is more than 85% of what sets star performers apart from the average.

Level of Job Complexity Impact of Emotional Intelligence
Low complexity jobs (e.g. machine operators or administrative roles)

The top 1% produce 3 times more output than the bottom 1%
For medium complexity jobs (e.g. sales people or mechanics)
The top 1% is 12 times more productive than the bottom 1%

For high complexity jobs (e.g. physicians,
account managers, insurance sales people)
The added value generated by the top 1%
is 127% greater than the average

Increasing EI doesn't happen over night, it is not an e-book download away from your reach. It is something you must commit to, practice, and create habits based around these standards.

Pick an area of your life you would like to work on, ask for feedback, and proceed to take action.

The art of Listening is a good start. For all you super hyper, extra value meal speakers, you tuned out distracted parents, overworked, overbooked, busy for the sake of being busy bosses, this is especially important.

Till Next Time....

Why should I or anyone Coach? What is the big deal?

Recently I have run into the challenge of understanding the core reasons why I am in the business of coaching. All the typical reasons surfaced, such as: I would like to help people, would like all leaders to realize their full potential, etc. All true. However, something occured to me today that is much more in line with the truth.

I'd like to start a revolution!
A leadership revolution.

A world where leaders inspire, support, listen, encourage and motivate people. Coaching provides a kind of unconditional support that most people never have the privilage of experiencing. I would like to create a major impact with leaders across the world in all organizations in the way they lead and treat their people. My goal is to create a package, service and system that is accessable to all leaders that desire this change. I would like employees to lobby for their leaders to make these changes in order to create workplace environments that are enjoyable and pleasurable.

All leaders deserve to make the necessary behavioural changes to enjoy health relationships at work and at home, while gaining the skills and know how to cope with a hectic work and family life.

Ultimately I would like to create a leadership revolution, adding value to all companies that participate through the following areas.

Increase employee support and motivation

Employees will feel validated and supported

Leaders will increase their E.I. by practicing their newly gained behavioural changes.

Leaders will be able to use these techniques to put their people through similar programs

Leaders will increase their personal happiness

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Truth be told, most leaders have the practical skills, education, training experience. In my experience as a manager the real reason people are let go has nothing to do with tangible skills that can be taught, and everything to do with attitude, standards, and overall likeability.

In this competitive market, the edge you have is not only going to be how many technical course you have taken, but more importantly your emotional intelligence.

CHEERS to a new future, where people enjoy going to work everyday.

The trick to keeping resolutions....Read On If you Dare..

Follow through is tough when it comes to resolutions. The trick is to examine why, what are the roadblocks? how do we come to the resolution in the first place? Without making things too complicated, let's look at the building blocks for creating excellence in our lives..

VALUES: You must know your values. Your values are the foundation of everything you do in life, including the goals and resolutions you set. If your values are not in line with your resolution, or you are not clear why you want something. Your approach will not have as much momentum or meaning. What do you value really? write it down.

STANDARDS: Standards are the principles we hold ourselves to, and are based on values. Once you have a clear picture of your values, take a look at your standards. What kinds of standards do you hold yourself to today? what kinds of new standards would you like to set for yourself? A couple of examples of standards include; I don't smoke, I exercise regularly, I give gratitude to the people I love on a daily basis. You have them we all do, but clarifying them gives us insight on who we are, and why we are. Write down two new standards you would like to live by starting tomorrow. Explore the reasons why? How do these standards align with your values.

SELF CARE: Self-Care= Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual: We all know that self care is important. The irony of the importance of self care. Self care should NOT BE a GOAL, it should be a STANDARD. This is the trick. Most of us set goals that are self care. Well guess what, Self-care is not a GOAL it is a life long building block made of standards that supports our entire entity including our dreams and goals in life. Remember, Practice makes Habit, and good habits create excellence. If you really want to make a change, establish your standards and go forth. When people practice poor self care, neglect their standards and ignore their values, they create a recipe for disappointment and failure.

There is no way around it. As they say....HOW BAD DO YOU WANT CHANGE?

Want change? Are you serious about it?

New Year~ Bring it on!

Caution: Party Poopers, Eeors, Mopers, Negative Nillies, Complainers: Do not Read....

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
So the winter holidays are coming to an end. When our buttons are popping, and our heads are aching, nothing seems more appealing then the old New Year Resolution. I can hear it now...I'll never drink again, this beer belly has got to go, I'm gonna fit into those jeans from High School.

You have heard it a million times. However, recently I have noticed a trend. People rightiously declaring they don't participate in the New Years Resolution. The logic behind it is respectable. Resolutions don't work, and furthermore, why wait till the New Year to make that choice.

People are frustrated and have given up on the resolutions. It's clear that resolutions are much like goal setting, and they are equally disputed and equally challanging for most people. Let's leave that for other people for a minute and get down to business.

5 Interpersonal Behaviors to Change Immediately!

Here are the first 5 of 20 behavioural changes as identified by Marshall Goldsmith, who has a PHD in organizational behaviour, and 29 years experience analyzing behaviour in organizations.

Studies show...employees don't leave companies, they leave managers...

1.) Winning too much: The need to win at costs and in all situations- when it matters, when it doesn't, and when it's totally beside the point.

2.) Adding too much value: The overwhelming desire to add our two cents to every discussion.

3.) Passing judgement: The need to rate others and impose our standards on them.

4.) Making destructive comments: The needless sarcasms and cutting remarks that we think make us sound sharp and witty.

5.) Starting with "No," "But," or "However": The overuse of these negative qualifiers which secretly say to everyone, "I'm right. You're wrong."

Remember in order to create real change it must be sustainable, the best way to create sustainable change is by creating good habits to support these behaviours. In these cases, these are habits based around (stopping) rather then starting or learning a new behaviour. In my experience leadership coaching is the most effective way to support and create sustainable change.

Increase your leadership ability with two simple tips!

These two tips of the day are gauranteed to improve your ability to be a better leader. If you are serious about improving your skills as a leader take note of the following two tips. I bring them as an interpretation from my virtual mentor "Marshall Goldsmith", who is considered one of the top executive coaches in the world.

Tip # 1.) Say Thank You...We all know it is standard ettiquette to say these two words. The power in this tip is to say it in situations when you would least expect. How many times has someone offered a suggestion or a comment and you responded with some kind of a comment that could have been replaced with "Thank You, I appreciate your feedback?" or just a simple...Thank You!

Example A: Your assistant brings up a suggestion on a new marketing project you are putting together. Immediately you recognize the suggestion and say, thats a great idea but...blah blah blah...my idea is better,(get the picture?)

A simple Thank You, for your suggestion. Or even better I appreciate your feedback. Would work just fine and take away the judgement of the situation. It would turn the turf into neutral ground. Powerful stuff.

Example B: A member of your team has been working day and night. Putting in long hours, and consistantly coming up with solutions, while maintaining a positive attitude. When do you say Thank You? The answer is simple, RIGHT NOW~! There is no harm in Thanking now and Thanking later as well. There is however a little harm potential when you wait to long. People may begin to harbour the feeling that you are not grateful, and during this process suffer unnecessary stress. Do yourself and your team a favour, say THANKS~ Grattitude is the best policy now and always. Consider this the law not the acception.

Tip # 2.) Apologize: Yes, it is o.k. to show you are human~ Recognize areas of weakness, apologize, let people know you are going to try to do better. Check your results. If you set yourself up as someone who is never wrong, you set yourself up for disaster. If you have been a terrible listener, if you lash out regularly and it is obvious apologize. If it is very clear you need to apologize, then you can imagine just how important this is. If you are unsure, then do a blind feedback. Get some good questions out to your people about your leadership, don't ask for names ask for honesty. Go from there.

I hope sharing these tips can help you in your journey to becoming a strong leader.
If you would like more information or just a chat..please feel free to e-mail me or comment any time.

Feedback~ Suggestions + Critique are all WELCOME...and

THANK YOU FOR READING~

Give yourself a fighting chance! 3 Tips for creating a successful business.

Lucky for me, I have had the chance to work with some very successful business owners in my lifetime. They have inspired me to do more, be more, and take more risks. I'm a dreamer so this comes naturally. I love the passion and energy I have for coaching and for challenge. Endulging in big picture thinking, theory, and dreams. Such a luxury! Then all of a sudden like an astroid we are hit with the hard facts. Student Loans, Credit Cards, Operating Costs, the Economy as we know it today!

Here are three ingredients to give you a fighting chance at success!

1.) Financials: I know, I know, the F word. Nobody wants to face the harsh reality of the state of finances, especially in North America. The truth is North Americans are rated the worst in the world for saving money, and the majority are stuck paying interest only on debt. What to do?

FACE THE FEAR! Face the F Word head on, create a financial projection for the next 3 months to one year. Be honest, and be BRUTAL~! Ask for help if you need it. Figure you what you need to operate your business? How much will you need for your own lively hood!?

2.) A/R: How will you receive and collect payment for your services? Spend some time on this early on in your business. Will you ask for a retainer for service? Payment up front in full? How will your clients respond to this?

3.) SALES SALES SALES: The problem of too many sales is one I will take any day!
Remember, even in coaching you are selling a product, and that product is you. I've believed for some time now that branding, marketing, and sales involves anything that ever comes in contact with your client or potential customer.

What are you selling? How are you selling it?
What does it look like? Who are you selling to?

More importantly, how much to you have to sell to survive?
What are your projected sales targets, and how will you reach them.

Contact me; Jennifer@level88.ca

I would love to hear from you! what are your challenges and how can I help you overcome them. Remember, Face the F WORD TODAY! personally and professionally. I GAURANTEE you will sleep better at night.

Today is Show & Tell "What did you bring?"

I'm pretty sure most of us who grew up in North America remember a time in elementary school when we participated in show & tell. Teachers would ask students to bring something of significance to class and we would stand up in front of the class and describe what it was and why we brought it. A terrifying concept for many children as well as adults.

Today, I am exploring the concept of Show & Tell as a powerful coaching tool. Many times coaches are faced with a different kind of show and tell. A client tells them one thing, then shows them another in their actions. Furthermore, show & tell can be used when a coach would like a client to show their actions or fieldwork as well as tell about it.

Show & Tell can also be used in the case of an individual needing to make change. For example, if someone would like to improve on their relationship they can do the following; Show their spouse they love them by doing something sweet, then follow it up by telling them. Using actions and communication to assist with the repair.

Going back to the situation where a client is telling one thing then showing another, a coach could use language to help the client see these repeat actions. For example; I'm hearing you tell me this, then you are showing me this? what does that mean for you? I'm wondering what would be one thing you could do create action that is more in line with what you are telling me?

Continueing with the Show & Tell power tool a coach could use the scenario in this wau. Confirm with the client; So you are telling me XYZ, am I clear on this? I'm wondering, would you like to play a game of show & tell? How about you come up with one action, one tangible goal that you can show me that will reflect what you are telling me, in addition to this go out and find one object of significance to prove that you took this action, take a photo of it, and send it to me. Next week when we speak we will play SHOW and TEll.

In my opinion the applications of this power tool are plenty. It has an element of game, power of language, and the ability to create action.

Any ideas on how "show and tell" can be used as a power tool in coaching?

e-mail me! :>) I love new ideas...

Leadership (Revisiting the 5 steps)

Remember Practice Makes Habit!

The qualities that make for good leadership are based on our own personal values and principles. An important part of establishing great leadership habits, begins with our own personal self care. In order to respond productively to the needs of the company we must take responsibility for ourselves and our feelings. Detect, label, let go and respond. Are we reacting out of fear? are we serving an underlying emotion that we have yet to detect?

Actions for personal and professional leadership: Revisited:

Know yourself:

Know what your values, are identify what is important to you. Take the time to know where your strengths and weaknesses are. Remember "Truth" is key. Many successful people live with false self talk, that helps to disguise the areas that need to be worked on. It is natural and healthy to be optimistic, but it is equally important to recognize the areas that truly need improvement.

Find your vision and passion:
See clearly what you want out of life for yourself, your family, your career, society in general. Think about the possibilities, and potential, not just what exists today. Remember do what you do with energy, enthusiasm, joy and energy. If you don't have this or can't find this, it may be time to start asking why?

Take Risks:
Do daring things, take steps in unknown areas. Risk looking foolish and not being perfect all the time. Risk being vulnerable, forthright, emotional, human. Trust you gut, intuition. Make decisions and take action!

Communicate Effectively:

Express your ideas and feelings; be willing to be seen and heard. Stand alone when you speak, learn presentation skills and develop confidence. Learn writing skills. Practice every chance you get. Communicate so your audience will understand and relate to what you say.

Check your progress and results:
Look at what is working and what is not. How do you feel about your life? This is a good sign whether it is working or not. Look at your attitudes and behaviour, ask, " what is my progress, what is holding me back. Make sure you have a goal or vision to focus your energy!

"Peter Urs Bender, (Leadership from within)"

Remember~ Practice makes habit, and good habits create results!

Crazy Lady Found Blogging!

Attention, is psychological gold. It is the lifeline of marketing, the desire of all teachers, and the heart of tabloid magazines.

What we pay attention to and how we pay attention to it, can mean the difference between chaos and disconnection, or fulfillment and strong relationships.

Goals are accomplished by focusing on what we want, taking the steps, then achieving the desired result. A simple concept, with a complex history. Why do most people fail to accomplish their goals? Would it be to bold to suggest that our focus as a society is being pulled in so many directions that we have lost touch with what focus and attention is all about.

Strong relationships are accomplished by giving our undivided attention to someone. Don't we all feel "better connected" with individuals who listen? Don't children respond best when you get on their level and give them your undivided attention.

Two ways to improve attention & focus:

1.) Goals: If you have a goal, whatever it may be, take a certain time each day to pay attention to that goal and that goal ONLY~ nothing else. No blackberry, Television, Cell Phone, T.V., Internet etc.(And watch out for your thoughts, these days we are conditioned to have our minds racing due to the overload of information and stimuli).

2.) Strong Relationships: Set some time to do something with a person you care about. Make sure it is all about them, and give them your undivided attention. The same rules apply; No Blackberry, Television, Cell Phone, T.V. etc. Really turn off and tune in~!

Note: If you have children, this technique can be powerful. Depending on their age, allocate some time daily, weekly, that is all about them. Ask them what they want to do for that 30 minutes or 1 hour, and only pay attention to them, nothing else! Not even in your thoughts.

I'd love to hear some thoughts on achieving goals and or strong relationships; I love comments and shared experiences.

To respond or to react? it's our choice.

At any given point in our lives, we are always in one form of action: either a
RESPONSE
or REACTION

When people are first introduced to the idea of responding rather then reacting, it is pretty amazing see the reaction. Usually it is one of disbelief, maybe a bit of denial, or even curiousity. However, recently people are being introduced to the idea that there are choices we can make to improve our quality of life beyond our brand of toothpaste, or choice of luxury vehicle.

One of the champion tools we have is the choice whether to react or respond. When we are in a state of reaction, we are allowing our emotions to dictate our actions. Reacting can often perpetuate a problem, or enlarge a complaint, and can even tear down, rather then build up relationships. In reaction we often see a lot of blaming the "other person" rather then being accountable. Reacting is an outcome of the past, and is coming from some kind of emotional need. It is important to note that that a reaction can be internal or external, our thoughts count too.

Let's look at an example of work place reacting.

Anna has been working long hours on a project she is very passionate about. She has put in a lot of time and effort, and has even missed family commitments to complete her work. Finally the project is coming to an end, she just needs a bit of feedback from her supervisor before she can feel good about finalizing it and passing it over. She knows how busy her supervisor is, and reluctantly gathers the courage to ask for a bit of feedback prior to completion. Overworked and stressed out, Anna is feeling very nervous. However, her supervisor is also very busy, and pushes the feedback date forward for another two weeks.

1.)The supervisor sends her a quick e-mail saying. Good Afternoon, Anna. I am very busy these next two weeks and won't have a chance to look at this project until then.

+ What kind of reaction might anna have to this scenario?
+ What kinds of emotinal needs might she bring into this equation?
+ What common commitments or standards could she have been jeapordizing?

Anna might decide that her supervisor doesn't have time for her, therefore doesn't value her work. Most likely she is not going to "react" externally to her boss out of fear. However, it is easy to see how some internal reactions may begin to simmer.

What could Anna do in this situation to respond rather then react?

____________________________________________________________________________________

The key to Responding is to identify your feelings. Detect, Label, Let go and then Respond. It is especially important in the world today to identify that when our goals, values, and missions align we can respond better and more easily. We can take responsibiliyt for ourselves and make the choice that respect comes from the response we can give. Our emotional maturity needs to be encouraged by practicing extreme real self care in our physcial, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual quandrants. This is the short-cut to creating an environment where one can respond rather then react.

People are not tired, they are bored

When priorities begin to fade and action items take over, a feeling of disorganization and chaos is on the horizon. It is safe to say that continuing on that path can only lead to burn out. Finally a vacation is in order, and planned. By the time I reach my destination, a migraine sets in. The stress and the over extension has led me to this. It is disappointing to be sick when you are on vacation, and I'll bet this has happened to a lot of people. Of course, I need to find out what the issue is. How did I get to this point? Am I on the right path? I'm enjoying what I am doing? What is happening? It's important to recognize what is really at hand, rather then sum it up with too busy, or too tired. These words are excuses we use to avoid the truth. After a little bit of thought, I found that a lot of my actions were not in line with my "standards" . Guidelines I created for myself to live by and that were important to me. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in "being busy" which is essentially the same as "just being". Rather then being purposeful, effective, and keeping in line with your standards. When you are doing what you love, and you are in line with your standards, passion will rise. When passion joins in, getting tired, being too busy, etc. seem to disappear. It is really important to be creative and passionate about what you do, to be in constant discovery. My lesson is to focus on my passion, remember my standards, and never forget that being busy is not the same as being effective or purposeful.

Put your hands on the wheel

We have all experienced times in our lives where we have felt hurt, dissapointed, annoyed, or angry with a situation or an individual. In these moments the only thing that seems clear is an uneasy feeling. It can be said that you can measure your happiness in life by how often you are experiencing these feelings.

Even in a professional environment, feelings cannot be ignored. There are several reasons for this; first, our feelings are a powerful tool we have choice and control over, second, individuals who are feeling content or happy on a regular basis are more productive, and create a more pleasurable working environment; finally, negative feelings, when ingnored, will grow and eventually spill into the culture.

We are going to now change the word feeling into the word perspective. For the most part what we call feelings; are based on our perspective. Now lets keep in mind for a moment that feelings are a natural, and important part of life. However, there are times when they are based on perspective that can be shifted to create a new feeling, to our advantage.

For example; if you lose someone you love the obvious outcome is you will be sad, you may even become depressed. Rightfully so, no one would ever question this. However, if you look around the world, there are people that use faith, or beliefs to overcome those feelings. Therefore, their perspective or feelings will shift.

In day to day life, we experience situations on a much more diluted level. Someone may say something that you thought was offending, or not in line with what you percieve to be appropriate. Or maybe someone critizies you and now you feel a lack of confidence. The list of experiences goes on.

Now the question is, where do these perspectives come from? How do I arrive to these feelings and conclusions?

In Motion, and Emotion

It always amazes me how just at the right moment a book, a song, a person or an experience will come my way. Hard to ignore the fact that when you focus on a particular idea or subject long enough; you stumble upon an inspired thought, meet someone who shares your ideals, or you land smack in the middle of that energy. Some might say; hey you were looking for it and you found it. But how many times do you hear people are looking for something they cannot find? More importantly how do you know what you are looking for is what you want to find? This life is definately more then just a read through (RHCP). But often times we are so caught up in the idea of the end result, the early retirement, the new BMW, the large bank account, the future rather then the present. I'm in motion and in emotion about these thoughts. To me it seems that the real idea is to constantly design your life in line with your standards, your ideal life. It is not so far off to say never settle for less, because in many ways that is true, but only if you know how to shift your perspective.

To make an immediate change try the following;

Look around you; begin to recognize the things you appreciate about what you do for a living and where you are;

Maybe its the BBQ's they put on for you once a week, the gift certificates they hand out, the opportunities they provide, the amazing people you work with, the fact that they want you for that position, whatever it may be start taking stock in the things you appreciate. If you really want to see results, don't assume it does or doesnt work, just be objective and do this for 21 days, see how you feel~

This doesn't mean it is your dream job, or your final experience, the be all end all. Because that is all yesterday's news.

It's about the future, what will you be, how will you get there, where do you want to be?

Put in motion the emotion of appreciation

Let me know how it goes'; i'd love to hear all about it...

The Sour, an unpublished song (not mine)

i could never live life easy
i could never just slow down
and as long as i keep moving i'm falling
but it feels so good to get up off the ground
and if i'm the same when i'm older
i won't be just a face in the crowd

i'm only as crazy as you all make me
and that doesn't make me wrong
love it or hate me, you can't mistake me
and that doesn't make me wrong

i could never live like its over
when running in circles is allowed
cause it takes so much to keep me from falling
but i'd rather be a risk than on the ground
and if i'm the same when i'm older
i won't be just a face in the crowd

the sweet, isn't the sweet, without the sour

so lucky so strong so proud

Action vs. Delay

An interesting paradox to start the day. There are times when action, can become chaos. In my life there are days when action and energy is going is so many directions that it becomes nearly impossible to focus. I imagine ten formula one cars, revving their engines, only to find out they are pointing in different directions and being held back by a cable. Sometimes the most active people can appear to be procrastinating due to their lack of focus. Especially when you throw perfectionism into the mix. I'm a self proclaimed information addict. I don't read fiction, I'm not fond of sit coms, and my idea of a good time usually involves learning something. However, music is something I love, all types creative, realistic, emotional. Movies, Comedy, Fantasy, etc. I will watch. The universe likes action "The Secret", it responds to action. Delay on the other hand, can have positive and negative connotations depending on the perspective. Delay can give us a chance to reflect, to reevaluate or organize in a way that allows us to take action with focus and clarity. For someone who is overly active, it is important take the necessary steps to identify how our energy is going to be streamlined, and focused in a way that is productive rather then spinning our tires in one spot. From my experience, some of the most productive times in my life were spent focusing my mind and energy in the right place. It allowed me to gain clarity about my feelings, and gave me the gift of appreciation and gratitude. Two very powerful energies in this universe. I'm confident there are many people out there who feel their energy is being blasted in twenty different directions all day long, many people who are addicted to action, many people who feel that the only way to feel value or to show value is to be overly active. Challenge your perspectives daily, gain a new insight where your energy can or should be focused. Take action by recognizing that pausing (or delay) can give you space to focus, or gain clarity. Once you have it, take ACTION in the direction that you have gained.

Love this life!
